An apple a day.

So I am bad at keeping up on blogging. BUT if you wander by this post by some accident, here's the scoop:

Opal Apples are the BOMB!

  • Opals® are naturally resistant to oxidation — which means they don’t brown after cutting
  • They’re the first U.S. apple variety sold fresh to receive Non-GMO Project verification
  • Discovered in Europe in 1999 and new to the states as of 2010, Opal® Apples are grown exclusively in Washington at Broetje Orchards
  • A portion of Opal® Apples’ sales goes to the company’s Youth Make a Difference Initiatives, which support youth-led non-profits involving food security and politics, nutrition, agriculture and education.
And the best part? Thought BzzAgent I #gotitfree

The legacy of the PK

I'll share a secret with you, I'm not a supermodel. Nor am I Martha Stewart. I like pintrest but I am not that organized or crafty. I am in no way shape or form perfect. I'm a mom of 3. A student. A Christian. I've been married for 15 years, and guess what...  my marriage hasn't been perfect either but we are happy.  In fact my life is perfectly imperfect!

Yeah... That's me and my hubby

Growing up, I was the PK (preacher's kid) well, technically, I was the PK's kid but my sister and I spent more time in our grandparents' care than our mother's so everyone around us assumed we belonged to them - and I suppose we did.

The Rev & Mrs J. DeBoer

Being the PK had its benefits you pretty much were a shoo-in for the sunday school perfect attendance awards... until you caught chicken pox or measles then you had to stay home.... and you were never late for church either.

But being the PK often means people assume you are perfect, have a charmed life, and never have problems. Well let me tell you - I have problems. I am NOT perfect. My life is far from charmed. Let me dispel some myths for you:
  1. I have never had the lead in a christmas play or church choir concert. Giving me such roles would have looked like favoritism so I was not allowed to have them.
  2. I don't have a special "Jesus telephone" or ATM.  As nice as that would be, I don't have a special line for my prayers or bank account. I have had prayers seemingly go unanswered and my bank account has been overdrawn.
  3. I don't own a mansion or a cadillac and I did not grow up in the lap of luxury. I know, TV preachers make it look so easy, but the truth is that's not the reality for most preachers in this country. I lived in apartments, and not the good kind with a pool & play structure either,  growing up and my grandparents never had a new car.
  4. My kids aren't angels! I know - that's a shock. But they are normal, everyday kids who do normal everyday kid things that make me crazy!
  5. I didn't marry a preacher! I married an everyday (kind of normal) Christian guy who sometimes sings at church.
  6. My faith/walk hasn't always been perfect. Why? Because I am not perfect. I have had doubts and I have fallen more than once.
This is my life, my perfectly imperfect life full of skinned knees and homework. Bandaids and Bookworms.
